Last Tuesday, our employees received the honorary medals “Distinguished Sea Worker”.
It is a professional distinction awarded to employees of the maritime economy and maritime administration as well as other people who have contributed to the achievements and development of the maritime economy.
The honorary medal “Distinguished Sea Worker” was first established by Resolution No. 488 of the Government Presidium of 18 June 1955 as a three-level medal: bronze, silver and gold. This resolution defined the detailed criteria for granting it, among others systematically exceeding production targets and contributing to the early execution of the plan. The medal was awarded by the Minister of Shipping. This resolution was in force until 11 May 1996, when it was repealed.
In its current form as a single-level medal, it was established by the Regulation of the Council of Ministers of 22 September 1997, and then slightly changed by the current Regulation of 22 November 2000.
The medal is awarded by the minister competent for maritime economy on his own initiative or at the request of: the head of an organisational unit supervised or directly subordinated to the minister competent for maritime economy, the minister, the head of the central office, the governor or the marshal of the province.
